Welcome to Fantasy Cheerstars!
I want to welcome the cheerleaders and parents to our first season of competitive cheerleading. Whatever your cheerleading experience, I know this year will be new and fantastic . I hope you are as excited as I am. There will be a lot of hard work but it will be well worth it. The rewards in body, mind and spirit can not be measured. Over the past few years I have grown to love the sport of competitive cheer. I wanted to start a program that girls could enjoy and grow through. I also wanted it to be affordable for just about every family whose little girl(s) wanted to cheer. Fantasy,is located as the Salem YMCA and is committed to community access. I have put together a program that, while as competitive as any other cheer gym-it is essentially non-profit. Each level team is run to meet the needs of those kids.
We will start this year with three teams Minis (K-2nd grade) Youth team (3rd-6th grade-young third graders may be able to do Minis)
Please feel free to call me with any questions; I don’t want anyone to feel overwhelmed. Here are some often asked questions and (I hope) answers.
Q. I heard it can be $5000 or $10,000 per season to cheer in an All-Star program?-I can’t afford that! ![]()
A.- No, our program is set up to be affordable. Typical cheergym monthly tuition is $90-$150 per month in some cases that does not include tumbling- that can just be the start .Fantasy tution is $70 per month, with a discount to YMCA members. Fantasy is staffed with experienced coaches in gymnastics and cheerleading, many of them are volunteering their time and knowledge. Therefore tuition is roughly half of standards gyms. Also everything you need to purchase for your cheerleader (uniform, sneakers, warm-ups) is sold at cost, without mark-up. Competition entry fees are also only charge at cost. There is no mandatory fund-raising .
Also, since we are working out of the YMCA I am able to give out some full/partial scholarships on Tuition.
Q. I’m still working on my back handspring ,is it realistic for me to try out?
A. Absolutely! If your other cheer elements are good (jumps, stunting, motions, dance/showmanship) we would love to have you. We will spend time on tumbling,If you are willing to work on your tumbling skills, we are too!
Q. Can I still cheer for my town's youth program?
A. Yes, It is not any kind of violation for girls to cheer Pop Warner and All-Star program as long as they don't compete in an All-Star competition before December 31 (which we won't)
Q. When will my Fantasy Cheer team start competing?
A. Probably late Febuary, this year our competitions are all in New England, except the last one which is at Hershey Park ,PA.
We want to emphasis fun and putting on a great performance every competition!
**Practices are scheduled to make it possible for girls cheering Pop Warner to attend. Pop Warner cheerleaders have the option of attending just the one practice per week until the end of October, if their game conflicts with the Sunday practice. During the season practices will be Sundays and one weeknight per week. Girls who cannot join until November are invited to try-out in August.
